Just watched Angels and Demons (2009) last night. I especially like the exchange in the end:
Cardinal Strauss: Thank God for sending you to us.
Robert: He didn’t send me.
Cardinal Strauss: Of course he did.
There in lies the very fundamental difference between a person of faith and an atheist, and the sad reality that you will probably never be able to convince one or the other. I just hope people would come to realize that we need understanding and respect from both parties towards each other. Nobody can dispute what science has done for humanity, and I think all religions in the world has accepted that. But it is also necessary for science to conceit that unless it can explain every single thing in the universe, faith will have to remain part of humanity.
One thing I always find interesting is that of the people I know, the higher that knowledge of science tend to create the more religious person. I think when we try to understand science more, the less we feel that we know about science and have to rely on faith. I’d like to see that humanity strive to understand both. Who knows, maybe the more we try to understand science, the more we will understand about God.
