This is funny.  The weather forecast from national weather service doesn’t say “sunny” or “mostly sunny” anymore.  It says “cold”.

My take on Bernard Madoff

30 12 2009

When you look at him, you’d think he’s got his life made:

  • Started at least 2 giant businesses (NASDAQ, and his ponzi scheme)
  • Lived in a mansion and a penthouse
  • Had billions of dollars
  • Now retired with taxpayers paying for his food, shelter, and healthcare

But, I would not want to leave such a name for myself or my decendents.  Whatever he enjoyed was not worth the tradeoff.

In a side note, he makes me wonder about the whole NASDAQ and the stock market…

This is the real definition of “Blue Moon”

30 12 2009

Guess something should be left unexplained.  This article just killed all the mysteries and excitement that I had.

Technology age VS cellphone technology

30 12 2009

I guess people who know me know my history of contempt towards cellphone company.  While that’s true, I think I only get passionate about this topic because it’s necessity of life and we are doing so poorly on it.

The following article highlights even more concern.  I was drawn towards iPhone and Droid and was trying to think through which one I want to try.  But with the ad campaign, I don’t think I want to try either.

Internet – promote or destroy perspectives?

28 12 2009

I think I heard this from NPR radio that somebody argues that internet actually destroys perspectives rather than promoting it.  His argument?  You can always find something on the internet that feeds your specific point of view.  Rather than having to research and confirm sources and provide the opposite point of view like in the old journalism days, internet provides a way for people to write whatever they want without accountability.

Movie Review – Angels and Demons

28 12 2009

Just watched Angels and Demons (2009) last night.  I especially like the exchange in the end:

Cardinal Strauss:  Thank God for sending you to us.
   Robert:  He didn’t send me.
Cardinal Strauss:  Of course he did.

There in lies the very fundamental difference between a person of faith and an atheist, and the sad reality that you will probably never be able to convince one or the other.  I just hope people would come to realize that we need understanding and respect from both parties towards each other.  Nobody can dispute what science has done for humanity, and I think all religions in the world has accepted that.  But it is also necessary for science to conceit that unless it can explain every single thing in the universe, faith will have to remain part of humanity.

One thing I always find interesting is that of the people I know, the higher that knowledge of science tend to create the more religious person.  I think when we try to understand science more, the less we feel that we know about science and have to rely on faith.  I’d like to see that humanity strive to understand both.  Who knows, maybe the more we try to understand science, the more we will understand about God.

Starting to really like “The Office”

23 12 2009

It’s a pretty funny show.  It’s one that is finally rivalling Seinfeld.

Christmas shopping traffic

23 12 2009

Just lived through a traffic light that did not advance one car in 5 signal turns at Olive and Whispering Pines.  Had to see to it believe it.

Wondering what kind of horror stories other people have about this topic.

Are you kidding me? Number 1
